Protecting New York’s Public Lands and Natural Heritage

We champion the protection, funding, and accessibility of public lands and state parks across the Empire State. Our Public Lands Advocacy work ensures that every New Yorker can enjoy the benefits of preserved open space, vibrant community parks, and thriving natural ecosystems.

Park & Trail Partnership Grant Program

Since 2015, we’ve disturbed $9.9 million in funding to grassroots organizations stewarding New York State’s parks, trails, historic sites. This competitive grant program is designed to strengthen the capacity of Friends groups and enhance public lands across the state.

park advocacy day

Each year, we bring together advocates from across the state to speak directly with legislators about the importance of investing in parks and public lands. We’ve helped secure historic levels of state park funding, major investments in park infrastructure and accessibility, and protection for critical open spaces and habitats.

New Yorkers for Clean Water and Jobs Coalition

We all need clean air to breathe and safe water to drink. We also need healthy communities, a strong economy, and local recreation. New York’s environmental programs provide all this and more. By fighting to maintain a $425 million Environmental Protection Fund, we can build a more vibrant future for New York.

NY Outdoor Recreation Coalition

NYORC is a diverse alliance of organizations, businesses, and advocates working to expand access to outdoor spaces and grow the state’s outdoor recreation economy. Together, the coalition promotes policies and investments that support healthy communities, environmental stewardship, and sustainable economic development through outdoor recreation.
