Local Friends Groups

With the help of a grant from the Bender Family Foundation, we want to extend our resources to volunteer “Friends” groups that care for local parks, historic sites, trails and green spaces in the Capital District.

Thanks to all who turned out for our Local Friends round table focused on networking, tips, and tools to strengthen their programs, enhance public health, and increase park and trail usage. It was a great event with lots of information sharing and networking. Participants learned some best practices for engaging their boards, volunteers and members with a presentation from the New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON). Stay tuned for our next steps and in the meantime check out these additional resources to help improve your Friends group.

Participants from local parks, land trusts, and open spaces took away an abundance of ideas, solutions, and information to bring back to their boards, members, and/or volunteers.
