New Yorkers for Active Transportation

In 2013, PTNY joined the New York Bicycling Coalition (NYBC), Tri-State Transportation Campaign (TSTC) and other bicycle-pedestrian advocates to form New Yorkers for Active Transportation (NY4AT), a coalition dedicated to securing equitable funding for non-motorized transportation, such as trails, bike lanes, and sidewalks. Demand for these facilities is great. Unfortunately, recent reductions in funding on a state and federal level have greatly limited the ability of communities to build this infrastructure. NY4AT seeks to change this situation, and, in doing so, fully implement the state's Complete Streets law.

  • Dedicated bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure funding
  • Revision of NYSDOT's Preservation First policy
  • Closing the Gaps in the Erie Canalway Trail
  • Re-establishment of the state bike-ped advisory committee

2016 Active Transportation Advocacy Day

This year's advocacy day was a great success, with New Yorkers from across the state coming to Albany to stress the importance of funding for walking and biking.

If you weren't able to join us in Albany, you can still participate.

Tell us why you support more funding for biking and walking through our online story form, and we'll make sure that your legislators gets your message. You can also arrange your own in-district visit with your legislator. Review the DIY Advocacy Instructions for some pointers, and use the Advocacy Day materials linked below.

Thanks!
