Support for Local Park and Trail Friends Groups

Building on our successful work with state park friends groups, and thanks to support from the Bender Family Foundation, Parks & Trails New York aims to strengthen local park and trail friends groups in the Capital Region by developing a capacity building program.

This capacity-building program will focus on increasing the groups’ visibility and support within communities, more fully engaging their boards and volunteers, expanding and diversifying their membership, and strengthening their partnership and communication with municipal park and trail management.

PTNY’s first step has been distributing a census to the 40 friends groups we’ve identified in the Capital Region to pinpoint their needs. Next, we will hold a roundtable gathering for Friends groups to help form a stronger community among these groups. Finally, depending on the need, we will follow up with individual support and online training webinars on topics such as community outreach, membership development, fundraising, volunteer management, and board development.

Are you a member of a Capital Region local park Friends group?

Please participate in the census. Following your submission, you will receive an invitation to the Capital Region Friends Roundtable.
