Intern Heads Up Canalway Trail Spring Cleaning

PTNY is happy to welcome Catherine Lamberson to the team as a project intern. Catherine will focus on promoting and organizing Canal Clean Sweep, PTNY's annual Earth Day volunteer event on the Canalway Trail.

Originally from Whitestone, Queens, Catherine is pursuing a degree in Communications from the College of St. Rose, with concentrations in Public Relations & Advertising, and Film & New Media. Besides a great attitude and excellent communications skills, Catherine brings experience gained by promoting the Ulysses S. Grant Cottage. Her PR team revamped the New York State Historic Site's website and collateral materials, and improved social media outreach. She has also been involved with advocacy on behalf of immigrant rights and efforts to end homelessness.

Catherine's focus at PTNY is Canal Clean Sweep: the annual "spring cleaning" for New York's Canal and Canalway Trail system, organized by PTNY and the NYS Canal Corporation. For the past 12 years, participation from trail fans and civic groups across the state has allowed Canal Clean Sweep to make a great impact for the Canal system.

Most of this year's events will take place Friday-Sunday, April 20-22, Earth Day weekend. Besides being a great way to celebrate Earth Day, Clean Sweep will help kick-off the 193rd consecutive navigation season on the New York State Canal System, the second year of the Erie Canal Bicentennial, and the Centennial year of the NYS Barge Canal.

Sounds like fun, right? Schedule your event today by visiting the Clean Sweep registration page. (If you don't want to organize a new event, you can also volunteer at an existing event.)
