In memoriam: Rick Morse

Richard D. Morse, a long-time and dedicated Parks & Trails New York trustee, passed away on November 7. Rick joined the Board in 2009, lending his extensive knowledge and legislative experience to help us protect and promote parks and trails.

After spending 32 years at the New York State Assembly, where he was one of the original authors of Superfund legislation, Rick worked as a senior policy advisor at Ecology and Environment, Inc. He was an avid backcountry and alpine skier, sailor, runner and Ironman triathlete, passions he continued to enjoy even after being diagnosed with cancer two years ago.

A true Renaissance man, Rick was a passionate and talented musician. He began playing guitar as a teenager, then transitioned to pedal steel guitar and dobro. Starting in the 1970’s, he was a member of many popular Capital Region bands, recording and releasing an album of original music with one of the bands earlier this year.

The staff and Board of Parks & Trails New York express our deepest sympathy to Rick’s family and friends.
