Playgrounds at State Parks

Thanks to Governor Cuomo, New York State Parks will receive $2.5 million to update 13 playgrounds. These playgrounds will promote healthy lifestyles, both physically and mentally, for youth by getting them outdoors.

The Governor believes that "playgrounds are important gateways to nature for many children that can lead to a lifelong appreciation of New York's majestic natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities at our great state parks."

The Connect Kids to Parks program was also launched this year by the Govorner, which allows free entries during the day to fourth graders and their families.

Some updates that will be included into the parks will be shade trees or canopies, seating, water fountains, and trails that will connect the playground to the rest of the park. These improvements will be funded by the NY Parks 2020 State Park Revitalization Plan. This plan's goal is to enhance or add 100 playgrounds by 2020.

Cayuga Lake State Park, Letchworth State Park, Whirlpool State Park, DeVeaux Woods State Park, Reservoir State Park, Grafton Lakes State Park, Lake Taghkanic State Park, James Baird State Park, Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, and Eel Weir State Park will all receive improvements.
