Hitting the Road

PTNY staff spent a lot of time outside of the office during the past month promoting events for the upcoming summer season. Here’s a brief rundown of some of places we visited along the way.

REI SoHo, New York City

On April 9, PTNY spent the day in SoHo promoting the Cycle the Erie Canal tour to visitors to REI’s flagship store. We gave a brief presentation on this year’s ride and then chatted with customers, former riders, and interested New Yorkers about the opportunity to cycle along the Erie Canal, one of America’s most treasured waterways. Special thanks to REI SoHo staff and Cycle the Erie Canal volunteer Daniel Millstone for helping make the day a success.

Broadway Bicycle Company, Albany

On April 20, PTNY staff set up a Cycle the Erie Canal information table at Albany’s Broadway Bicycle Company. Riders signed up for this year’s tour and other interested cyclists joined us for a short information session and pizza and refreshments. Participants also scored some great discounts on bike gear for the tour. Special thanks to Broadway Bicycle Company for their help.

Various Locations along the NYS Canal System

During Earth Day weekend PTNY staff participated in Canal Clean Sweep events throughout the Capital Region, including Clifton Park, Cohoes, and Waterford. We were joined by the dozens of volunteers who helped make the 11th annual Canal Clean Sweep the largest one yet!

Bike Expo New York, New York City

On April 29 and 30, PTNY staff joined thousands of other bicycle enthusiasts to participate in the Bike Expo New York, an event that is part of the 32,000-strong 5 Boro Tour of New York City. We shared a booth with Bike Virginia and Pello Children’s Bikes. The Expo gave us a great opportunity to showcase the beauty of the Erie Canalway Trail to a large audience. We also made a presentation at the Expo on the many ways to enjoy some of New York State’s most iconic destinations and stunning scenery from the seat of your bicycle.Various State and National Parks and Historic Sites

On May 7, PTNY staff attended several I Love My Park Day events across the Capital Region and Hudson Valley. We didn’t do it alone, however, as thousands of volunteers came out statewide to more than a 100 events.

If you missed us at one of these events, don’t worry, PTNY will be spending more time during the upcoming weeks across New York State, including a thirst quenching event at Davidson Brother’s Brewery in Glens Falls.
