Grants Deadline Approaching

The deadline for Park and Trail Partnership Program grants -- December 4, 2015 -- is only one month away.

Parks & Trails New York (PTNY) and the NYS Office of Parks, Preservation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP), with support from Governor Cuomo, announced the opening of applications for the NYS Park and Trail Partnership Program in September. The new grants program aims to enhance the preservation, stewardship, interpretation, maintenance and promotion of New York State parks, trails and state historic sites by investing in the organizations that support these treasured places.

The Park and Trail Partnership Program is a $500,000 capacity-building matching grants program for the Friends groups that support the state parks system. It is jointly administered by PTNY and OPRHP. The program is designed to:

  • Enhance the preservation, stewardship, interpretation, maintenance and promotion of New York State parks, trails and state historic sites.
  • Increase the sustainability, effectiveness, productivity, and volunteer and fundraising capabilities of not-for-profit organizations that promote, maintain, and support New York State parks, trails and state historic sites.
  • Promote the tourism and economic development benefits of outdoor recreation through the growth and expansion of a connected statewide network of parks, trails and greenways.

Complete details can be found online. Applications are due December 4, 2015. Grant awards are expected to be announced March 2016.

We look forward to working with Friends groups on this potentially transformative opportunity.
