Morgan Stanley Giving Back to Little Stony Point

Friends organizations are essential to the stewardship and promotion of our state park system. But even Friends groups can’t do it alone, even with everything the state puts into parks, public-private partnerships are essential to the stewardship goals for the hundreds of thousands of acres in New York’s park system.

Fred Martin and the Little Stony Point Citizen's Association hosted 20 volunteers from Morgan Stanley in June. As part of Morgan Stanley’s Giving Back program, they helped clean up and maintain trails, painted parts of the Volunteer Center, and cleaned the beach of glass and devils heads ( chestnut pods). Additionally, they helped Thom Johnson of their sister friends group, Friends of Fahnestock, at the Cornish Estate ruins across the road and up the mountain.

Also participating was Olivia Olsen, who will be a senior at Haldane High School in Cold Spring, and is the Student Liaison member of the Board. At the end of the day everyone was proud of the good work they did, and feeling happy and tired!

These partnerships are essential to taking care of our shared green spaces! By building a community of park supporters, we can ensure that New York's parks and conservation legacy remains intact. When friends and neighbors of New York’s state parks and historic sites participate in cleanup, beautification, and stewardship events, it brings visibility to the entire park system and its needs.

This past June was Morgan Stanley’s 13th annual Global Volunteer Month. More than 48,000 employees across 36 countries delivered over 262,000 volunteer hours.
