  • 650 Cyclists make 400-mile cross-state bicycle trip to experience Upstate New York

    On July 10, more than 650 cyclists will leave their cars behind to pedal along the historic Erie Canalway Trail from Buffalo to Albany. They will arrive in Buffalo July 9 to prepare for the launch of the 8th annual 400-mile Cycle the Erie Canal tour, organized by the statewide nonprofit group Parks & Trails New York. The tour kicks off on July 10.

These long-overdue repairs and enhancements have been enthusiastically received by the public who are visiting these regional economic drivers at dramatically growing rates.

  • Registration Open for Cycle the Erie Canal 2016

    Registration is now open for Parks & Trails New York’s 18th annual Cycle the Erie Canal tour, an unforgettable opportunity to bike across New York State and take in the rich history of the legendary canal that transformed America. The eight-day, 400-mile recreational bicycle tour from Buffalo to Albany is scheduled for July 10-17, 2016.

  • New York Assembly Members, Senators Push for Dedicated Funding for Bicyclist and Pedestrian Safety, Infrastructure

    A group of 46 assembly members and senators are asking for funding to protect New Yorkers who walk or cycle to work, school or other destinations. Specifically, they are calling for $20 million in dedicated state funding within the state’s overall transportation capital plan in FY2017 and years beyond. The funding could be used by communities across the state to build cycling and walking infrastructure such as bike lanes, sidewalks, and multi-use trails. Legislators and advocates point to New York’s high rate of bicyclist and pedestrian fatalities, and the great demand for facilities as justification for dedicated funding.

  • Postcards Delivered in Albany--Call on Governor to Close the Gaps in Erie Canalway Trail

    Cyclists rode from Watervliet to Albany on Tuesday, September 22, riding on the Mohawk-Hudson portion of the statewide Erie Canalway Trail. As they reached the pedestrian bridge in Albany, they delivered hundreds of postcards, signed by users of the trail from across the state, urging Governor Cuomo and the legislature to Close the Gaps that remain in the trail.
