    ROME — The city of Rome is now an official Empire State Trail Town after the Common Council voted to recognize a new action agenda brought forth by the city's Trail Town committee, which has spent the past nine months devising ways to improve the many hiking and bicycling trails in the area. Last year, Rome was chosen as one of three provisional Trail Towns by the state Canal Corporation and Parks & Trails New York, which was formed to highlight tourism along the Erie Canalway Trail.
