Parks & Trails New York is proud to stand with the New York Bicycling Coalition and the New York State Safe Streets Coalition at the Safe Streets Day of Action on Tuesday, January 27 in Albany, and we hope to see you there too!
This annual advocacy event brings together community members, trail users, cyclists, pedestrians, and safety advocates from across the state to speak directly with state legislators about the urgent need for safer streets for everyone. Safe Streets Days of Action empower everyday New Yorkers to raise their voices in support of policies that protect people walking and biking, promote active transportation, and help reduce traffic injuries and fatalities across New York State.
At the heart of this year’s Day of Action is pushing for passage of the SAFE Streets legislative package, a set of bills that would create safer infrastructure, give communities more control over speed limits, and strengthen protections for people who walk and bike. Past advocacy efforts like this have led to meaningful victories, including local control of speed limits down to 25 mph and the adoption of Sammy’s Law, but there’s still more work to be done.
The Day of Action is designed to be inclusive and supportive: trainings are offered ahead of time, and experienced partners help guide you through your meetings. There’s even organized transportation, including a bus from New York City, and support to arrange carpools from throughout the state.
Safe streets are essential not just for cyclists, but for trail users, park visitors, families, seniors, and everyone who enjoys being active outdoors. Making our streets safer supports healthier communities, stronger local economies, and more equitable access to recreation and transportation choices. That’s why PTNY is honored to join this statewide effort and to work alongside so many dedicated partners who are helping push this vision forward.
We’ll be in Albany on January 27, will you?
