There’s something special about a room full of people who share a deep love for New York’s green spaces. The energy is contagious with stories of stewardship, moments of connection, and a shared passion for protecting the places that make our state so extraordinary. That spirit was on full display at this year’s George W. Perkins Reception at City Winery in New York City.

The evening celebrated two remarkable honorees who’ve spent their careers turning care for the environment into lasting action. Dr. Lucy R. Waletzky, a dedicated conservationist and advocate for public health, has spent decades preserving natural spaces and inspiring others to do the same. Robert J. Kafin, Esq., an environmental attorney and policy champion, was recognized for his leadership in shaping legal protections for New York’s air, water, and public lands.

This year’s event also marked PTNY’s 40th anniversary–a milestone that had guests reflecting on just how far the organization has come. From expanding trail networks to strengthening community connections to the outdoors, PTNY’s work continues to leave an indelible mark across the state.

As the evening unfolded, guests shared memories, raised toasts, and looked ahead to the next 40 years of protecting New York’s natural beauty. Between the warm sunset glow of City Winery, the inspiring words from the honorees, and the sense of community in the room, it was a night that captured exactly what PTNY stands for: people coming together to make a lasting difference.

Here’s to the next chapter of conservation, collaboration, and connection–one trail, one park, and one celebration at a time.
