This year, our signature advocacy event hits a major milestone: 20 years of New Yorkers uniting for public lands. And with that milestone comes a new name! What used to be called Park Advocacy Day is now Park and Public Lands Advocacy Day, reflecting the wider range of advocates joining us this year.
Over the past two decades, this event has become a cornerstone for protecting and improving New York’s public lands. It’s a chance for advocates to make their voices heard, meet with legislators, and show just how much our public lands mean to communities across the state. The change in name this year underscores the growing recognition that protecting public lands requires diverse voices, perspectives, and partnerships.
At its core, Park & Public Lands Advocacy Day is about making sure New York’s outdoor spaces are well-funded, well-maintained, and open to everyone. On February 25, we’ll be championing our 2026 Advocacy Priorities. This is the roadmap for what we’re fighting for–from expanding trail access and improving park facilities to preserving historic sites and supporting local recreation programs. It’s everything that guides our advocacy and helps lawmakers understand why public lands serve as vital spaces.
As we celebrate 20 years of Park & Public Lands Advocacy Day, it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, and how much impact comes from advocates coming together to speak up for the spaces we love. Parks, trails, and public lands belong to all of us, and protecting them is something we can keep building on year after year.
