Join us at an Event

Special events and advocacy opportunities throughout New York State.

    Park Advocacy Day

Park Advocacy Day is an annual advocacy event hosted by Parks & Trails New York and the Open Space Institute. After two years of virtual Park Advocacy Day, in 2023 we plan to reunite the "green scarf brigade" in Albany on March 8, to continue to give our parks a voice and interact with the state’s decision makers on a personal level.

    George W. Perkins Reception

This year, our Honoree is very near and dear to us: Our former and recently departed Executive Director, Robin Dropkin. To have known Robin was to have known an indomitable spirit committed to New York's outdoors. From successfully leading the charge against closing state parks in 2010, to her decades of trail advocacy that was critical in formation of the Empire State Trail, Robin was tireless in her work for our parks, trails, and public lands.

    Canal Clean Sweep

Each year, in commemoration of Earth Day, members of the public, community organizations, and local groups join together to participate in Canal Clean Sweep to prepare the Canalway System for the recreation season by cleaning up debris and undertaking various beautification projects.

    I Love My Park Day

Parks & Trails New York organizes I Love My Park Day, in partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, to celebrate, improve and enhance state parks, historic sites, and public lands; boost volunteerism; and raise the visibility of the entire state parks system and its needs.

    Cycle the Erie Canal

More than 650 cyclists will leave their cars behind to pedal along the historic Erie Canalway Trail to Albany. Along the 400-mile journey, cyclists will enjoy some of the finest scenery, most interesting history, and unparalleled cycling in the northeastern United States.
