Canalway Trail Partnership Project
The primary goals of the Canalway Trail Partnership are to complete a 524-mile multi-use trail along the Erie,
Champlain, Oswego, and Cayuga-Seneca canals, and to ensure that the trail is managed for the best possible user
experience. The Erie Canalway is one of the country's most historic corridors.
When it opened in 1825, the Erie Canal was truly a wonder of the world. Currently, about 260 miles of the Canalway Trail are complete. The remainder is in
various stages of planning and development. Upon completion, the Canalway Trail will be the nation's longest historic
multi-use trail.
