Cycling the Erie Canal offers some of the finest scenery and best cycling in the northeastern United States. Here cyclists ride along the Erie Canal on part of the off-road Canalway Trail.

museums and other attractions.

Boats pulled by mules (all probably named Sal!) carry cyclists through a section of the Old Erie Canal State Park.

the ride begins.


Cycling the Erie Canal is a family-friendly
trip. Young and old alike are welcome.


Many overnights feature pools for swimming.


Mobile mechanical support is available
along the way.


The Bike Detail offers popular services such as fresh daily towels, comfy chair rentals, and recharging of cell phones.


Participants enjoy the comraderie of being amongst other cyclists. Last year, cyclists hailed from 35 states and three continents.


The end-of-tour celebration gives cyclists
a chance to reminisce and laugh together
one last time.


400 miles and many smiles later, Cycling
the Erie Canal participants arrive in Albany, tired, but happy.

Best ride in my 13 years of doing multiple-day rides...Enjoyed Lockport boat ride...Enjoyed the bike tour of Rochester...Beautiful ride, lots of fun!..Route was gorgeous!...What a joy to have the use of the YMCA & The Arts Center...We really felt welcome...Canal village, boat ride excellent...Rome was a wonderful stop!! Great People! Great Hospitality!
